'Powering the Nation' - The shocking report on energy waste in UK homes
In a report recently by the Energy Saving Trust (EST), the Department of
Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) which was
commissioned to uncover the electricity consumption habits of British households, the reliance on household
appliances and gadgets is responsible for a huge increase in electricity consumption.
As reported in The Telegraph, 250 homes were monitored for their electricity usage and the data
collated to see where the electricty was used and also where it was wasted.
One of the best solutions is being aware of the problem and considering which appliances
need to be on and which don't. You can install a meter to monitor your energy use, and you can even
generate your own electricity through solar panels or a heat pump, which for every 1kWh you put into it, you
receive between 3kWh-4kWh in return, reducing your bill considerably.
